Ontario Tourism Culture and Sport Minister Eleanor McMahon has just announced that Bronte BIA is one of 367 organizations across the province to receive funding under the Ontario 150 Community Celebration Program. She notes that “2017 marks a once-in-a-generation chance to celebrate who we are and share our dreams for the next 150 years. This celebratory year will be a time of excitement and inspiration and it will be a chance for the province, as a founding member and leader in Confederation, to engage all Ontarians and play a leading role in commemorating and celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canada”.

The At Home in Bronte, Perspectives & Reflections initiative to receive up to $25,000 to produce a creative, interactive public art and place-making enhancement designed to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary and welcome new and existing Canadians home to Bronte Village in Oakville. This project will harness community participation and artistic expression to tell the story of both Canada and Ontario’s history in Oakville through the design and installation of individually painted Muskoka chairs along the public pier in Bronte Village, Oakville for the summer of 2017.

Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn called Bronte BIA Executive Director Ann Sargent to share the good news. Sargent said “the Bronte BIA is excited and honoured to be one of the successful recipients under this program and others in the past, and we are very grateful to the support of the Town of Oakville’s Special Events Dept. for their support and collaboration”.

The project will engage local professional artists, businesses, community groups, families and the community to paint individual Muskoka chairs, using the design of each chair to tell a unique piece of personal or collective history that has contributed to the last 150 years in Oakville, Ontario. We invite all those interested to contact Ann Sargent at the Bronte BIA.

Bronte BIA was also recently awarded $50,000 in funding under the Ministry of Canadian Heritage Celebration and Commemoration Program – Canada 150 Fund for a heritage project.
