What is a BIA:
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of commercial business people and our local Councillor, within a specified district who join together, with official approval of the municipality, in a self-help program aimed at stimulating local businesses. They use their own money in an ongoing effort to draw more prospective customers to their area by improving the attractiveness of the area and promoting it as a good place to shop, visit and do business.
The Bronte Business Improvement Area (BIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the economic prosperity and quality of life in Bronte Village. We work to provide an environment that supports the role of the area as a place for quality shopping, dining, entertainment and financial and professional services.
Our mandate is two-fold:
- to improve, beautify and maintain public lands and buildings with the BIA, beyond that which is provided by the municipality at large and
- to promote the area as a business and shopping area.
What We Do:
The Board Of Management of the Bronte BIA are elected Members of the Bronte BIA business community and are responsible for creating the annual Business Plan to drive traffic to the area. Funds are collected from each Business Member as a percentage of the taxed assessed value of their facility. The Town Council does not contribute to this budget, directly. The Town Council acts as the “collection agency” and provides guidance and ensures good Governance for this not for Profit Association.
